Alternatives Student Credit Union @ Belle Sherman
Would you like your child to participate?
He or she will need a savings account with Alternatives Federal Credit Union (AFCU) to participate.
If you're child already has one, you're set.
If not....
There are TWO ways a student can open an AFCU account:
#1 – Sign up during credit union days:
Every Thursday (starting 10/8/09), from 7:40 – 8:00 am in the Main Building Gym.
The student should:
- Bring $3.00 to pay the account-opening fee.
- Bring his/her social security number; otherwise, we can't open the account.
- If a parent wants to be a joint owner of the account, bring the parent's social security number and a copy of the parent's picture ID.
- The student can start his/her account right then and make his/her first deposit that day!!
#2 – Sign up FROM HOME! Here’s how:
a) Read and fill out the account card available in the main office or at the student credit union on Thursdays.
- If any adult in the student's immediate family already has an account with Alternatives, please write his/her name in the upper right hand corner of the card. (This will save you the $2.00 start up fee.)
- Make sure to fill out all needed social security numbers; otherwise, we can't open the account.
- If the student's parent would like to be a joint owner of the account, you must also attach a copy of the parent's photo ID and include his/her social security number.
- Be certain the student (and the joint owner, if there is one) sign the back of the card!
b) Put the card and the account-opening fee in an envelope marked “CREDIT UNION”.
- The account-opening fee is $3.00, but you can send whatever part of that you can afford.
- $1 of the fee is the initial deposit and will show in the passbook.
- $2 goes to AFCU as a membership fee (waived if a parent is an AFCU member).
- It's OK to fold the card.
- Cash or a check to “AFCU” is great.
c) Bring the envelope to school and give it to your teacher.
If we get the envelope by Friday of a given week, the student will have his/her passbook available at the next credit union Thursday @ 7:40 am in the main building gym!
